Devil Softball Splits With Bullets on Tuesday Night

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a double-header with visiting Gettysburg College on Tuesday night. The Red Devils scored in the bottom of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie for a 5-4 victory. A three-run homerun in game two led to a 3-0 win for the Bullets.

The Devils struck first in game one as Stephanie Hammond (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) reached on a bunt single in the bottom of the first. She stole second and scored on a double by Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh).

The Bullets tied the game in the top of the third. Brooke Kalman doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a triple off the bat of Melissa Tighe. The Bullets capitalized on a pair of errors to add three runs in the fourth.

Dickinson answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring a pair of runs on three doubles to trail, 4-3. Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) and Haines recorded back-to-back doubles, and Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) added another to drive in Haines.

Haines tied the game in the sixth, hitting a solo shot over the fence to pull the Devils even. Dickinson rallied with two outs in the seventh. Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. She came around to score, beating the throw as Osborn singled in the game-winner.

Haines finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs while Osborn and Ditzler each recorded a pair of hits. Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) turned in a solid effort in the circle, recording nine strikeouts.

The teams played scoreless through five complete innings in the nightcap. Osborn gunned down a runner at the plate to keep the game scoreless in the fourth.

The Bullets used a three-run homer from Emily Hall to score the only runs of the game as she went over the center field wall in the top of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Jordan each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap to lead the Devils at the plate.

Cassie Blyler (Dowingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) pitched well overall, despite taking the loss. The Red Devils stand at 9-11 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Susquehanna on Thursday for a make-up game with the Crusaders.
