(Westminster, Pa.) – In a battle between two of the top pitchers in the Centennial Conference, McDaniel College got the better of Dickinson, claiming both halves of a double-header on Tuesday. The Green Terror survived the opener, 4-3, in eight innings and captured the nightcap, 3-0.
The Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the opener. Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) led-off the game with a triple. She scored as Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) reached on bunt as the Terror tied to get Swade at home.
Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) reached on a fielder's choice before back-to-back singles from Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Megan O'Neill () loaded the bases. Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) drew a walk to score one run and Rachel Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) was hit by a pitch to score the third of the inning.
A double and a single put McDaniel on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Lindsay Blohm drove in two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game, 3-3.
Stephanie Maring drew a walk, moved on a sacrifice and scored on single from Amy Baumgardner for the win.
Homa recorded 10 strikeouts on the opener while Caroline Brehm tallied a dozen for McDaniel in the opener. Brehm held the Devils to just a pair of hits in the nightcap, adding seven more strikeouts.
The Terror scored a pair in the second inning, capitalizing on an error, a double and two-RBI single from Rachel Sidney. Maring added another walk and scored on a double from Jackie Liebowitz in the sixth for the final of 3-0.
Swade added a hit in game two while Homa recorded four strikeouts, allowing just one earned run.
The Red Devils slip to 14-22 overall and 5-11 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to host Albright College on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
