Red Devils Rally in the Rain for 6-4 Win Over Albright

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team used the help of a sudden rain shower to rally with five runs in the sixth inning to overtake Albright en route to a 6-4 win on Wednesday night. The rain continued to fall, forcing the cancelation of the second half of the double-header.

The teams traded runs in the first inning. Brandy Lagomarsino led-off the game with a single, stole second and scored off the bat of Natalie Carlucci to put the Lions on the board.

First-year Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) singled in the bottom half of the inning and came in to score on an RBI single from senior Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius X) to pull the Devils even.

The game moved quickly with both teams holding strong on defense. Lagomarsino led-off the sixth inning with single to right field and scored on a single to left from Kiersten Gilroy to put Albright back on top, 2-1. Gilroy looked to steal but a strong throw by catcher Jay Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) beat her to the bag for the second out of the inning. Carlucci doubled but the next batter grounded out to end the inning.

The skies opened up and a constant downpour lasted for the remainder of the game. The Red Devils drew three walks, stole three bases and scored five runs to take a 6-2 lead at the end of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Stephanie Hammond (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) came on to pinch-run after Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) drew a walk to lead-off the inning. Hammond moved to second on a passed ball that was caused more by the rain than the catcher. She then stole third and came in to score on a wild pitch, tying the game.

Haines and Jordan walked and stole bases before scoring on a two-RBI double from Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville). Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) singled, stole a base and scored off the bat of Corinne Ahern (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) for the Devils' sixth run.

Junior Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) came on in relief and powered through the final half inning. The Lions clawed back with two runs but Homa was able to record three strikeouts in the inning to close out the game.

Piet led the way with her two RBIs while Homa and starter Cassie Blyler (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) combined for five strikeouts and allowed just six hits on the day.

The Red Devils close out the season 15-22 overall.
