(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team earned a key Centennial Conference win on Thursday, slipping past Franklin & Marshall, 5-4. With the win the Red Devils clinch a berth in the conference playoffs, improving to 7-2 in the CC.
The host Diplomats took a 2-1 lead in doubles, winning the second and third flights. Senior Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and junior Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) claimed the point at #1-doubles, winning 8-5.
Rodgers won the top singles flight (7-6 (10-8), 6-1) and Lavery posted a straight set win in the second flight, (6-0, 6-2).
Ilana Unger (Boulder, Colo./Alexander Dawson) won fourth singles (6-1, 6-1) and Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) survived the fifth, (4-6, 7-6, 6-1) to give the Devils the win.
Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./Wheeler School) played a close match in the sixth flight, falling (7-5, 6-2). Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) suffered a 6-3, 6-2 setback in the third flight.
The Red Devils improve to 8-8 overall and 7-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg for the regular season finale on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
