(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team suffered a 5-0 setback at Swarthmore College in the 2013 Centennial Conference semifinals on Saturday.
The Garnet jumped out to a 3-0 lead, claiming all three doubles matches. The Devils dropped 8-4 decisions in the first two flights, and suffered an 8-6 setback in the third.
Swarthmore secured the match with straight set wins in the fourth and sixth singles flights, to advance to the conference championship on Sunday afternoon. Ilana Unger (Boulder, Colo./Alexander Dawson) battled in the second set before falling, 6-0, 7-5.
Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) was trailing 6-4 after the first set in her match, but held a 4-2 advantage in the second before the Garnet closed out the match.
Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) turned in a strong performance in the third flight, trailing (7-6, 3-2) at the conclusion of the match.
The Red Devils finish the season, 9-9, overall, posting an 8-2 mark in conference play this season.
