(Tucson, Ariz.) – The Dickinson softball team suffered a pair of losses on Thursday, falling to 2-6, in Arizona. The Red Devils fell to Robert Morris University, 7-1, and 5-3 to Alfred University.
Robert Morris scored twice in the first inning, adding a pair of runs in the fourth, and three in the fifth. The Colonials tallied 14 hits on the day, led by Angel Roeback, going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Brittany Ward drove in three runs on a pair of hits.
Roeback doubled in the first inning and came in to score with Leah Challenger, on a double from Ward.
The Red Devils answered in the third, scoring on a bases loaded walk by sophomore Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona). First-year Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack) reached on an error, and scored after moving to third on back-to-back singles from Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and Megan O'Neill (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme).
Roeback drove in two runs in the fourth to put the Eagles in front, 4-1. Madlyn Joyce doubled to lead-off the fourth inning and scored on another RBI from Ward. Joey Crockett added a two-run homer to make the final, 7-1.
Jori Boren held the Red Devils to five hits to earn the win. The Red Devils only struck out twice on the day, scatting five hits.
Alfred University rallied from a 2-0 deficit to complete a sweep of the Devils with a 5-3 win on Thursday.
Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) led-off the second inning with a double. She scored on a double from Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) to put Dickinson on the board. First-year Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) singled to score Garlinger for a 2-0 advantage.
The Saxons had a big inning in the third, using four singles and double from Alison Wickwire to take a 4-2 lead.
Samijo Scheer doubled in another run for Alfred in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 5-2. The Red Devils looked to rally in the seventh, but could only manufacture one run. Maring led-off with a single, followed by Ditzler being hit by a pitch. Sophomore Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) drove in Maring before the Saxons closed out the game.
Wickwire finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and recorded the win in the circle with a complete game effort, recording three strikeouts.
Edelson went 2-for-4 with a run scored, adding a walk and recording 10 putouts in the field. Maring went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Red Devils finish the week on Friday, facing #4-ranked Central College at 9:00 am and taking on Crown College at 11:00 am.
