(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team opened Centennial Conference play with a 7-2 win at Washington College on Saturday.
The Red Devils took a 2-1 lead after doubles, claiming the second and third flights. Sophomore Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) and Claire Stoner (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) survived a 9-7 decision in the second flight while Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) and Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) rolled to an 8-0 win in the #3-spot.
Dickinson posted five wins in singles, led by senior Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) with a big win in the top flight, (3-6, 6-2, 11-9).
Diamond won a three-set battle in the second flight, (4-6, 7-5, 10-3) while Parks and Stoner won in straight sets in the fourth and sixth flight. First-year Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julian's School) won the fifth flight, 6-0, 6-0.
The Red Devils improve to 2-4 on the season and start 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils travel to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday for a 3:30 match with the Blue Jays.
