(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team suffered a pair of setbacks on Tuesday night, falling to Gettysburg, 9-0 and 5-2.
The Bullets scored lone runs in the first three innings, tacking on four in the fourth to stretch the lead to 7-0. The Bullets were the home team because the game was originally scheduled to be played in Gettysburg. Sophomore Steph Zengel hit a two-run homer in the fifth for the final of 9-0.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) singled in the first inning but Gettysburg pitcher Michelle Fox recorded three strikeouts to start the game. She finished with just the three but allowed just three hits as well.
Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) each added hits for the Devils in game one.
The Red Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two on a two-run bomb from sophomore Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh). Classmate Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) reached on a single before Edelson launched a shot over the wall in left center.
The Bullets answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs behind a two-RBI single from Emily Hall. Hall drove in another run in the fifth, and Abby Ferguson singled for her second RBI of the game.
That would be the final, 5-2, as the Bullets improved to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-12 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Edelson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Ditzler finished 2-for-3. First-year Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) reached on a bunt single.
The Red Devils travel to Messiah College for a 3:30 double-header on Thursday. They are home on Saturday and Sunday, facing Washington College and Haverford.
