(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team continued its run of strong play, turning back Goucher College, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Hayes Tennis Courts.
Senior Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) battled a gusting wind to post a straight set win over #12-regionally ranked Amanda Bercovici, in the top singles flight. Lavery won the first set 6-4, and closed out the match with a 6-2 score in the second.
Lavery added another point as the Red Devils opened with a sweep of doubles, teaming with classmate Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) for an 8-4 decision. Altholtz captured the second singles flight in straight sets, (6-3, 6-1).
First-year Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) rolled to a (6-1, 6-1) victory in third singles, and joined junior Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) to earn the point in the second doubles flight, 8-6. Cantor played in the fifth singles flight, coming away with a 6-3, 6-2 decision.
Claire Stoner (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) and Dominique Hedderich (Walton, Neb./Choate Rosemary Hall) each earned two points as well. They combined for an 8-5 win in doubles and added straight set wins in the fourth and sixth singles flights, respectively.
The Red Devils improve to 7-5 on the season. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Haverford College on Saturday.
