(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of games to Centennial Conference front-runner Muhlenberg College on Thursday night.
The Mules had a big fifth inning, scoring six runs, to secure a 10-1 win in the opener. They came away with a 6-3 decision to improve to 21-7 overall and 10-2 in the conference.
Muhlenberg scored three runs in the second inning of game one, capitalizing on four straight walks. The Devils answered with one in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) singled and came in to score on a bases-loaded walk from Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley).
Jamie Klotz singled in a run in the top of the third to stretch the lead to 4-1. The visitors erupted for six more in the fifth behind a two-RBI double by Taylor Trifiolis.
Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./Penncrest) led the Devils at the plate, going 2-for-2 in game one.
Trifiolis singled to score another run to open game two. The Red Devils answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) led-off with a walk, and scored on an error as Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) reached on a single.
Sophomore Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) doubled to scored Maring and put the Devils on top.
Muhlenberg added lone runs in the second and third to pull in front, 3-2. Maring singled to score Orden, tying the game in the fourth inning. The Mules tallied three runs in the sixth, highlighted by a double from Nicole Iannarone, and would hold on for the sweep.
Maring went 2-for-4 in the nightcap while first-year Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) added a pair of hits as well.
The Red Devils slip to 8-20 overall and 4-10 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to travel to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a double-header with the Diplomats.
