(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team swept a double-header from Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, claiming the opener, 4-2, and posting a 1-0 shutout to win the nightcap.
The Diplomats struck twice in the first inning of game one to take an early, 2-0 lead. Sophomore Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) doubled and came in to score on a single from Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) to put the Red Devils on the board in the second.
Garlinger singled again in the fifth inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jay Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton). She came in to score on an RBI single from junior Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock), to tie the game.
Garlinger came up big again in the sixth inning, driving in Piet for the go-head run. Abell singled to score Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park), who came in to pinch-run after Megan O'Neill (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) reached on a single.
Senior Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) went the distance for the win, recording four strikeouts in the opener.
Garlinger went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a runs scored to lead the Devils at the plate.
Homa tossed another complete game to win the nightcap, 1-0. She added six more strikeouts in the shutout effort.
Piet and Garlinger teamed up again, in the seventh inning to lead the Devils to the win. Piet recorded her second hit of game two, and moved over on a single from O'Neill. Garlinger reached on an error, driving in Piet for what would be the winning run.
F&M led-off the bottom of the seventh with a double, but were unable to plate the tying run.
Piet went 2-for-2 in the nightcap.
The Red Devils improve to 10-20 overall and 6-10 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils return home to face Juniata College on Thursday night at 5:00 pm.
