(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team handed Franklin & Marshall its second Centennial Conference loss, holding off the Diplomats in a thriller, 5-4.
The Red Devils found themselves trailing 2-1 after doubles. Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) and Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) put the Red Devils on the board with an 8-2 victory in the third flight.
Senior Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) claimed the top singles flight, turning back Caitlin Rummelsburg, (6-1, 4-6, 6-2).
The Red Devils captured the third, fourth and fifth flights as well, to put the Devils over the top. Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) won the third in straight sets, (6-1, 6-2).
Parks continued her outstanding rookie season with a (6-3, 6-2) decision in the fourth flight. Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julian's) held on for 7-5 opening set before rolling in the second, 6-1.
The Red Devils improve to 8-7 overall and 6-3 in the Centennial Conference. They close out the conference schedule on Saturday, hosting Muhlenberg College at 1:00 pm.
