(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team posted a pair of 12-4 wins over visiting Juniata College in a non-conference double-header on Thursday night. The Red Devils stretched the lead to eight in the sixth inning of the opener, and accomplished duplicated that performance, through five innings to complete the sweep in game two.
The Red Devils saw 8-of-9 players record a hit in each half of the double-header. Ironically, Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) tallied just one hit on the night, but proved to be one of the most productive Red Devils on the night, drawing five walks and scoring seven runs on the night.
Maring's lone hit was a double, and a key one, scoring in the fifth inning of game two to help close out the game for the Devils. Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) singled to score Maring for a seven run advantage.
Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) followed that with a double to the gap in left center, scoring Edelson, all the way from first to end the nightcap.
The Devils scored twice in the first inning of game one. The Eagles answered to tie, scoring a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) doubled to score two runs in the bottom of the inning. Edelson doubled in a run as well, and Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) added an RBI as well.
Juniata answered with two more runs in the fifth, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Junior Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) tallied a pair of RBIs as Dickinson tacked on four runs to lead, 10-4. Swade reached on an error in the sixth and Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) came in to score the game-winner.
Edelson went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the opener. Garlinger went 3-for-3 with a double and Piet recorded three hits with a double. First-year Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) put the Devils on the board with a two-RBI single in the first inning.
Cassie Blyer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) earned the win in the circle while Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) came on in relief.
Maring and Edelson drew walks in the first inning of the nightcap and came in to score on a single from Piet. The Eagles answered with a run in the second.
The Devils stretched the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs. Juniata continued to battle, pushing across three in the fourth, cutting the margin to 5-4.
Dickinson put together another big inning, scoring five runs in the fourth to lead, 10-4. First-year Lindsey Zwecker (Altanta, Ga./Pace Academy) drove in two runs with a base-hit down the right field line.
That set the stage for the fifth inning heroics as the Devils completed the sweep with back-to-back 12-4 decisions.
Sophomore Micki Crouch (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) recorded five strikeouts to earn the win in game two. Homa came on again, earning a save.
Piet went 3-for-4 again in the nightcap, recording five RBIs and scoring twice. Edelson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Maring walked in her first three at-bats and finished with a double. She scored four runs in the nightcap to finish with seven on the night.
The Red Devils improve to 12-20 on the season. They travel to Frostburg State University on Saturday for a 12:00 pm double-header.
