(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team suffered a pair of games at Messiah College on Thursday, falling in the opener, 4-1, and the nightcap, 8-0.
Krista Ammon led-off the second inning with a triple and put Messiah on the board 1-0. The Red Devils tied the game in the fifth inning as Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) singled and moved all the way to third on an error. Junior Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) drove in the run with an RBI single.
The Falcons regained the lead on a two-run single from Becky Notte. Ammon tripled again to start the sixth inning and scored on a single by Emily Quatrale.
Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) and Garlinger both went 2-for-3 in the opener while Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) added a hit as well.
Messiah struck with five runs in the third inning to take control of game two. Courtney Allen tripled in a run and scored on a single by Notte. Ammon homered to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Ammon added another RBI and scored in the fifth as the Falcons closed out the game, 8-0.
The Devils were held to just three hits in the nightcap. Ditzler added another while Megan O'Neill (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) added hits while Swade and Garlinger reached on a walks.
The Red Devils slip to 6-14 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, hosting Washington College at 1:00 pm.
