Red Devils Blank Hornets 3-0 for First Win

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team turned in another strong performance on Saturday, turning back visiting Shenandoah University, 3-0. The Red Devils put one on the board in the first half and tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the second to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Senior Ali Becker (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy) gave Dickinson a 1-0 lead, scoring off an assist from first-year Emilie Arrix (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), 16 minutes into the game. Arrix tipped the ball to Becker after a nice cross from junior Taylor Meehan (Phoenixville, Md./Bishop Shanahan).

The Red Devils controlled possession for the second straight match, recording 26 shots on the day. They tallied back-to-back goals in a span of just over one minute. Sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) tallied her first goal of the season, netting a Kendal Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) rebound off the pads of Hornet goaltender Jenna Rampale.

First-year Lily Mott (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) stuck at the 64:03 mark, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career. Arrix tallied her second assist of the afternoon with a strong pass to Mott, directly in front of the cage.

Junior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) posted her first shutout in just her second career start. She made four saves behind another solid effort from sophomore defenders Chloe Morakis (Potomac, Md./Wootton) and Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest).

Junior Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) and first-year Alexis Bonser (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) were strong in the midfield, along with junior Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary), holding the Hornets to just seven shots on the day. The Devils held a 12-3 advantage in penalty corners as well.

Rampale played well in the cage for Shenandoah, making eight saves on the day as the Hornets slip to 0-1 to start the season.

Dickinson improves to 1-1 on the season. They travel to Frostburg State University on Wednesday to face the Bobcats at 5:00 pm.
