Box Score
(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson field hockey team worked overtime to claim another key Centennial Conference win, outlasting Johns Hopkins, 3-2, in double-overtime on Wednesday night at Homewood Field.
The Blue Jays struck early, scoring just 1:34 into the match, capitalizing on a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead. Lindsey Adams scored off an assist from Leslie MacManus, redirecting the ball into the cage.
The Red Devils answered to overtake the Blue Jays, scoring twice in a span of just one minute, 18 seconds. Junior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) put the Dickinson on the scoreboard, firing a backhand shot on a loose ball to pull the Devils even.
Perlmutter carried the ball to the end line and hit a shot across the goalmouth and sophomore Emilie Arrix (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tipped it in to put Dickinson out in front, 2-1, with 16:21 remaining in the first half.
MacManus was the hero again for Hopkins, dishing out an assist to Morgan Pothast to tie the game, early in the second half.
That would be all the scoring for the remainder of regulation. MacManus tried to come through once again, creating a pair of shots late in the game, but senior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) turned away back-to-back shots to keep the score level and send the game into overtime.
Fuss was tested again, early in the first overtime as Austin Davis fired back-to-back shots at Fuss in the opening two minutes, but couldn't net the game-winner. Fuss was tested again to start the second overtime as Hopkins drew an early penalty corner. The senior goaltender made a big save, then turned away three more shots late in the final minutes.
Dickinson would capitalize on a penalty corner of their own, scoring the game-winning goal in the 98 minute. Junior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) became the program's all-time single season assist leader, dishing out her 12th of the season, finding Perlmutter for her second goal of the night and her 11th goal of the season.
Davis moves into a tie for second on the career list with 19 while Perlmutter moves up to fourth all-time with 85 career points behind 36 goals in three seasons.
Fuss finished with 12 saves on the night, turning away six in overtime. Greta Helvie tallied 13 saves on the night while the Devils forced a pair of defensive saves from Kiana Duncan and Francesca Cali.
The Red Devils improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference. They wrap up the regular season conference schedule, hosting Ursinus College on Saturday before traveling to Franklin & Marshall on October 31st.
