(Hilton Head, S.C.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team posted a 5-4 win over Webster University, after suffering setbacks to Newberry College and Ashford to open the spring season in Hilton Head.
First-year Emily Sprague (South Burlington, Vt./Bluffton) claimed the lone point in an 8-1 loss to Newberry College. She won the fifth singles flight, 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) claimed a three-set win in the second singles flight against unbeaten Ashford University. She treaded 6-0 sets with Rachel Gantz before taking the match in the third, 10-7.
Parks joined classmate Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julian's School) in the top doubles spot. They put up a fight, but fell, 8-6. Sprague joined Elizabeth Marin (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) in the third flight, playing to an 8-5 setback.
The Red Devils rebounded with a 5-4 win over Webster University on Tuesday. Dickinson swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Parks won second singles in straight sets and joined first-year Stuart Lemay (Port Harwich, Mass./Westover) for an 8-4 decision in second doubles. Lemay added a 6-0, 6-0 win in the fourth singles flight, to secure the win for the Red Devils.
Nunes teamed with Lauren Altschuler (Malvern, Pa./Eastern) to capture #1-doubles while Sprague joined senior Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./Wheeler School) for an 8-5 win in the third flight.
The Red Devils (1-2) return to action on Thursday, facing Albion College.
