(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis teams suffered an 8-1 setback in its Centennial Conference opener, hosting Washington College on Saturday.
The Shorewomen jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of doubles. Sophomore Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julian's School) and classmate Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) put up a battle in the top spot, falling 9-7.
Parks put up a fight in the second singles flight as well, dropping a three-set match to Marielle McIntrye, (2-6, 6-4, 10-6). First-year Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) earned the lone point for the Devils, capturing the third the singles flight, holding off Julie Lazer, (4-6, 6-4, 11-9).
Nunes turned in a strong performance in the top singles flight as well, dropping a 7-6, 6-3 decision to April Weaver.
The Red Devils slip to 1-4 on the season. They are scheduled to travel to Johns Hopkins for a 3:30 pm match on Wednesday afternoon.
