Front Running Fords Take Two From Devils

 

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of games at Haverford, slipping to 11-4 on the season. 

 

The Red Devils dropped the opener, 9-1, after the host 'Fords put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first. They added single runs in the second and third, and pushed across three in the fifth to end the game.

 

Kristin Tatum hit a three-run homer to key the first inning. Jill Schnall doubled to highlight the fifth while Sarah Brody drove in the game-winner with a single in the fifth.

 

Jessica Koshinski went 3-for-4 to lead Haverford at the plate. Sara Tauriello scattered three hits while striking out five to earn the win.

 

Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and reached on an error.

 

Haverford put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first of game two as Koshinski doubled and later came in on a wild pitch. Tatum walked and scored on a single from Schnall for a 2-0 advantage.

 

Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) walked with two outs and moved to third as Diztler followed up with a double, but both were stranded as the 'Fords worked out of the jam.

 

Tatum doubled and scored on another RBI from Schnall for a 3-0 lead in the third. Lauren Touey singled, stole second and scored on an RBI from Koshinksi to stretch the margin to 4-0.

 

The Red Devils got one back in the top of the fifth. Two batters were hit by pitches to load the bases after Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) reached on fielder's choice. Diztler grounded out, put Swade came across to put Dickinson on the board.

 

The Red Devils looked to rally in the seventh as the Devils used back-to-back singles from Jay Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Swade. They advanced to second and third on a ground out. Abel came in to score off the bat of Ditzler, but the 'Fords got the final out for a 4-2 final.

 

Abel went 2-for-3 in the game two while Ditzler tallied a pair of RBIs. First-year Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) suffered the loss in the circle, slipping to 3-2.

 

The 'Fords improve to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils (11-6, 2-4 CC) return home to face Gettysburg College on Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm.
