(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Swarthmore College, ranked #20 in the ITA Atlantic South Region.
The Garnet opened with a 3-0 sweep of doubles. Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julien's School) and Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) dropped the top spot to Alli Wong and Maria Cuervo, 8-4.
Senior Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) and first-year Emily Sprague (South Burlington, Vt./Bluffton) battled before falling 9-7 in the second flight. Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) and Elizabeth Marin (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) fell 8-3 in the third.
Parks won by default to earn the point in the second singles flight. Sprague won in the fifth flight, 6-4, 7-5. Cantor won seven points in a 6-4, 6-3 setback while Lemay went three sets with Anna Schreibmeir. Lemay won the first, 6-2, but Schreibmeir countered (6-3, 10-4).
The Red Devils slip to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Centennial Conference. Swarthmore improves to 9-6 and 5-3. The Red Devils travel to Franklin & Marshall for a 4:00 pm match on Thursday.
