(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team battled the rain and Gettysburg College on Thursday night, but dropped both games of a Centennial Conference double-header. The Bullets pulled away late to claim the opener, 9-2, but had to work overtime to take the nightcap, 6-4, in nine innings.

Melissa Tighe doubled and came in to score on a passed ball, putting the Bullets in the board in the first inning of game one. The Red Devils answered in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 advantage, early on. Senior Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) led-off with a single and came around to score on an RBI base-hit from Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).

Edelson stole second and came around to score off the bat of Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), who reached on an error.

Tighe led-off the third with another double and came around on an RBI from Emily Hall. Jamie Abell scored as well on a double-steal as the Devils went after Hall to record the out.

Ashley Iannone reached on an error and came around to score to put Gettysburg in front, 4-2, in the fourth. Steph Zengel tripled to start the fifth, leading to three-run inning with Wendy Folfas driving in two with a double. The Bullets added more insurance in the top of seventh for the final of 9-2.

Folfas led the Bullets in game one, going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice and three RBIs. Lindsay Treanor went the distance to earn the win, holding the Devils to four hits to improve to 7-2 on the year.

The nightcap saw a nine-inning thriller, played for the most part in a constant rain. The teams played through three scoreless innings behind strong pitching from rookies Aileen Riley and the Red Devils' Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley).

The Bullets pushed across a run in the fourth inning as Abel singled and scored on base-hit from Hall. The Devils responded immediately in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to take the lead. Edelson singled and beat out a throw to second as Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) reached on a fielder's choice.

Both runs would score as Garlinger put down a beautiful sacrifice bunt that led to an error, allowing both runs to cross the plate. Zwecker reached on a single and Garlinger came in to score on a double-steal as pinch-runner Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) beat out the throw to second.

Sam Misurell led-off the fifth with a double and scored on another from Abel. A Red Devil error allowed two more runs to score, putting Gettysburg in front, 4-3.

The Devils again wasted little time, answering with a lone run in the bottom half of the inning, to knot the game, 4-4. Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) drew a walk and came all the way around as Edelson hit a shot into the gap in right center.

Both teams worked their way out of threatening situations as the game progressed into the ninth inning. The Bullets started things off with back-to-back singles. Following a sacrifice bunt, Iannone and Stephanie Leonardo drew back-to-back walks to force in a run and take the lead.

Misurell came through with an RBI single for another insurance run, putting the Bullets up, 6-4.

Riley was able to close out the game in the top of the ninth, improving to 7-1 on the season. The Bullets ran their record to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Abel went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Misurell finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored to pace Gettysburg.

Edelson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Zwecker added a single and a double in game two. Garlinger reached safely on three occasions with a single, walk and error on her sacrifice bunt.

The Red Devils slip to 11-9 overall and 2-6 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to Washington College for a 1:00 pm double-header on Saturday.
