Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team stormed out of the gates, scoring twice in the opening three minutes to set the stage as they posted a 6-1 win over visiting Johns Hopkins, in a key Centennial Conference match-up on Wednesday.
Every game this time of year is critical with the playoffs just around the corner. The Red Devils wasted no time putting a goal on the board as sophomore Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) collected her own rebound and scored just 57 seconds into the contest.
Senior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) found the back of the cage with just 2:36 off the clock as the Red Devils were rolling early.
Kramer stretched the lead to 3-0, finishing on an assist from first-year Mia Scott (Mount Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) after a nice dodge on the end line. Just 20 seconds later, Perlmutter added another to put Dickinson up by four at the break.
Perlmutter rattled the cage from just inside the circle with her third goal of the game, scoring just over four minutes into the second half.
The Blue Jays finally broke through, spoiling the shutout in the 41st minute. Victoria Piscopo slipped into the circle and hit the upper left corner to make the score 5-1.
The Red Devils closed out the scoring on a penalty corner with 26 minutes remaining in the game. Perlmutter tallied her fourth of the day with assists from junior Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) and first-year Delaney Ahn (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) for the final of 6-1.
The Blue Jays continued to battle, creating some dangerous scoring chances. Junior goalkeeper Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) finished with three saves, making a strong play with a diving stop in the second half.
Zoey Atabek came on to make five saves for Johns Hopkins as they slip to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the Centennial Conference. Greta Helvie and Jodie Baris combined for five saves as well.
Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) and Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) joined Ahn to turn in an outstanding effort on defense while Danielle Schwab (Hightstown, Md./River Hill) controlled play in the midfield.
The Red Devils finished with a 22-10 shot advantage after holding a 16-1 edge in the first half. Hopkins forced eight corners, including six in the second half while the Devils produced seven on the day.
The Red Devils improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference. They have another big match-up on Saturday, traveling to #8-ranked Ursinus College for a 12:00 pm start.
