(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a double-header at Elizabethtown College on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Devils dropped the opener 2-1 and came back to win the nightcap 7-5.
Marissa Kramer singled with two outs in the first inning to score the first two runs of the game for Elizabethtown.
The Red Devils looked to rally in the sixth. Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) singled and came in to score on an RBI from Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) to put Dickinson on the board.
The Devils loaded the bases with no one out before a bizarre play ultimately led to three outs. A fly ball into shallow center field was dropped, forcing all three runners to advance. The Blue Jays went home to third to second to stall the rally.
The Blue Jays held on as Amber Sergas recorded six strikeouts to earn the win.
Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) put Dickinson on the board in the first inning to start game two. She reached on an error and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley). Torlincasi scored off the bat of Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) on a fielder's choice.
Kramer led the Blue Jays to a four-run inning in the third, driving in two with a double. The Red Devils answered with one in the fifth and erupted for five in the sixth to take the lead. Edelson doubled and eventually scored on a throwing error to tally the lone run in the fifth.
The Devils scored all five runs with two outs in the sixth. Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) doubled to trigger the rally. Piet added a two-RBI double and Edelson launched a two-run homer to give Dickinson a 7-4 lead.
Elizabethtown pushed across one in the bottom of the seventh before the Devils retired the side for the 7-5 win.
Edelson led the way, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Piet drove in three runs and scored once, going 3-for-4. Epstein finished 3-for-4 as well while Lane and Marissa Ruschil (Katonah, N.Y./St. Luke's, Conn.) each recorded two hits in the nightcap.
First-year Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) came on in relief to earn the win in the circle. She held the Blue Jays to three hits while recording six strikeouts.
The Red Devils move to 2-12 on the season. They return home to host Susquehanna University at 3:00 pm on Thursday afternoon.
