(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a double-header to open Centennial Conference play at Ursinus College on Saturday. First-year Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Red Devils to a 1-0 victory in the opener. The Bears claimed game two, 3-2.
Junior Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) led-off the second inning with a solo homerun for the lone score of the game.
Milaszewski found her groove, recording 10 strikeouts in the two-hitter, allowing just one walk and one hit batter to earn the win in what turned out to be a pitcher's duel. Kaitlyn Willis held the Devils to just three hits, recording 10 strikeouts as well.
Edelson drew a walk to go 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored in game one.
The Bears used a lead-off walk to score a run in the first of game two before first-year Marissa Ruschil (Katonah, N.Y./St. Luke's) recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.
The hosts stretched the lead to 3-0 on a two-RBI single from Callie Crouse in the fourth inning.
The Red Devils looked to rally with the bat of junior Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) as she launched solo homeruns to lead-off the fifth and seventh innings for the final of 3-2.
Torlincasi finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, adding a single to lead-off the game. Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) went 1-for-1, reaching twice on a walk.
Ruschil finished with four strikeouts, scattering just three hits while Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) allowed one hit and recorded a strikeout in two innings of relief.
The Red Devils move to 4-14 overall and 1-1 I in the Centennial Conference. They are home on Tuesday, hosting McDaniel College at 3:00 pm.
