(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a double-header at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils dropped the opener, 5-2, but came back strong in the nightcap to claim a 7-1 victory.
The Diplomats scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning of game one, and tallied lone scores in the second and third to take a 4-0 lead. Senior Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) cut the lead in half with a two-run homer, scoring classmate Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh), who reached on a single.
The Diplomats added an unearned run in the fifth and held on for the 5-2 final. Edelson went 2-for-2 and reached on a walk while Ditzler finished with an RBI and run scored on the homerun to lead the Devils at the plate.
Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) doubled to lead-off game two and came in to score on an RBI single from Ditzler to right center.
F&M used a triple from Kelly Van O'Linda and a single from Katie Wenger to score its lone run, tying the game in the bottom of the first inning.
The Red Devils erupted with four runs in the sixth to take control of the game. Torlincasi led-off by reaching on an error and scored on a double from senior Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville).
The Devils capitalized on a pair of walks, two hit batters and an RBI single from Ditzler to highlight the inning. Edelson put the finishing touches on with a two-run homer in the seventh for the final of 7-1.
Edelson went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and reached on a pair of walks. Ditzler went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Torlincasi finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. First-year Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) went the distance in the circle to earn the win, scattering five hits and recording three strikeouts.
The Red Devils move to 14-22 overall and 8-8 in the Centennial Conference. They return home for a non-conference double-header with Albright College on Tuesday night at 5:00 pm.
