(Grantham, Pa.) – Dickinson senior Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) made the most of her final double-header as a Red Devil, hitting three doubles to break the school record with the 37th of her career at Messiah College Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, the #13-ranked Falcons claimed a pair of decisions, taking the opener 3-0 and the nightcap, 11-6.
Messiah used back-to-back doubles in the first inning to set up a two-RBI single for Amanda Jones. Brooke Pompeo singled in the third and scored her second run of the game to put the hosts in front, 3-0.
Edelson was on a mission, recording two of the Red Devils' three hits in game one, ripping a pair of doubles down the left field line off Courtney Allen, who improved to 19-0 on the season.
Senior Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) singled in the fifth for the Devils' third hit of the opener.
The Falcons tallied three runs in the bottom of the first to start game two. Dickinson made things interesting once again, scoring two in the top of the fourth. Edelson reached on a fielder's choice and Ditzler recorded her second hit of the game to set the stage for a two-RBI double off the bat of sophomore Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley).
Carrie Fix hit a two-run homer to highlight a five-run inning for Messiah as they stretched the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
Maureen Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) doubled to lead-off the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville). Junior Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) reached on an error and came in to score as Edelson hit her record-breaking double to left center, making the score 8-4.
Messiah tacked on three runs on three hits in the sixth and Clayton drove in two more runs with a single in the top of the seventh for the final of 11-6.
Clayton went 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the nightcap. Ditzler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Red Devils finish the season 15-24 overall.
