Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team turned in a strong offensive performance, posting a 4-0 win over visiting Shenandoah University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Devils opened the scoring in the 12th minute when sophomore Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) sent a beautiful ball across the front of the goal where senior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) was waiting to put a shot in the back of the cage.
The Red Devils tallied again in the first half as Kramer fed sophomore Taylor Bednar (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half for a 2-0 lead.
Dickinson kept the momentum into the second half, scoring 3:09 after the break as Kramer redirected a shot from Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) for a 3-0 advantage.
The Red Devils would tally their final goal of the day in the 44th minute on a well-executed penalty corner. Senior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) ripped the ball into the cage with assists from Dey and junior Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland).
The Red Devils were dominant, statistically, in the first half as they held an 11-1 advantage in shots and 4-0 edge in corners. For the game, Dickinson outshout Shenandoah, 14-5, and stretched the margin on corners to 8-1.
First-year Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) made her first collegiate start to earn the shutout. She turned away just one shot, but it was a good one, securing the clean slate on the Hornets' lone corner.
Jessica Brown made six saves for Shenandoah as they slip to 2-3 on the season.
The Red Devils improve to 2-2 overall. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Haverford College in their Centennial Conference opener at 11:00 am.
