(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team had a pair of tough outings on Thursday afternoon, falling to Susquehanna University, 9-0 and 12-3. The double-header was originally scheduled to be played at Susquehanna, but poor field conditions moved the game to Carlisle.
The River Hawks struck once in the first inning and added three in the second with the help of a two-run homer from pitcher Alexa Gonzalez.
Gonzalez came up big again in the fifth, driving in three runs with a double as Susquehanna stretched the lead to 9-0.
The Red Devils looked to rally in the bottom of the fifth with hits from Maureen Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and Ashley Whitson (Buchanan, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic), but were unable to produce any runs.
First-year Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) went 2-for-2 in the opener while Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) added a hit as well.
The Red Devils had a strong start in the nightcap, holding the River Hawks scoreless in the opening two innings. Susquehanna came alive in the third, pushing across six runs in the top half of the inning.
Leigh Ann Greenwald and Brooke Kohler added a triple and double as the River Hawks tacked on five in the fourth. Kohler added another RBI in the fifth.
The Red Devils continued to battle, starting off the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back doubles from Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Moroz to spoil the shutout. Senior Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) drove in two runs for the final of 12-3.
Kohler went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the nightcap as Susquehanna improved to 10-4 on the season.
