Softball Claims Opener in Split at Muhlenberg

(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team had a strong start, claiming the opening game of a double-header at Muhlenberg College, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon. The Mules scored twice in the sixth to force the split with a 2-0 win in game two.

The Red Devils used four walks to put a run on the board in the first inning of game one. Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) came in to score as Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) tallied the RBI.

The Mules used a pair of hits and an error to score an unearned run and pull even in the bottom of the second. Senior Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led off the third with a single and came in to score on a base hit from sophomore Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) to put Dickinson back on top.

The Red Devils had a big inning in the sixth, knocking out four hits to score three runs to stretch the lead to 5-1. Lane started things off and senior Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) followed up with a single as well.

Maureen Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) tallied an RBI and Orden made it 4-1, scoring on an error as Moroz stole second. Parise drove in another insurance run to put the Devils in front, 5-1.

Muhlenberg looked to rally, scoring another unearned run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Devils would hold on for the win, 5-2.

Lane went 2-for-2 in game one, scoring one run and driving in another, while Torlincasi went 2-for-4 in the opener. Sophomore Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) earned the win, scattering six hits and recording a pair of strikeouts.

Muhlenberg strung together five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs and that would be enough as the Mules took the nightcap, 2-0.

The Red Devils had their best chance in the top of the sixth as Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Torlincasi singled, but were stranded on second and third.

Epstein led the Red Devils at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the nightcap.

The Red Devils move to 9-21 overall and 5-7 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils travel to McDaniel College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm double-header.
