Softball Drops Two Tough Games at McDaniel

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of close games at McDaniel College on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils suffered a heartbreaker in the opener, falling 3-1 on a two-run homer in the eighth inning and saw three late runs lead to a 3-0 setback in the nightcap.

The Red Devils battled through six scoreless innings before putting a run on the board in the top of the seventh inning of game one as Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) singled and came around on a double from Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway).

The Green Terror answered in similar fashion in the bottom of the inning to pull even and force the extra frame. Alicia Wagner singled and pinch-runner Morgan Scardina scored on a double by Haley Michael.

McDaniel put a runner on in the eighth, capitalizing on a two-out error. That set the stage for a two-run homer by Olivia Kipe to give the Green Terror the win.

Sophomore Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) tossed a solid game for the Red Devils, allowing just five hits and one earned run.

Jamie Weisser scattered three hits and struck out six before Fiona Johnson came on in the eighth to record the win.

A pitcher's duel in game two saw a combined six hits from both teams. Emily Rosenberg (Fredericksburg, Va./Masspaponax) allowed just two while Milaszewski surrendered just one.

Johnson gave up three hits for McDaniel as she improved to 9-3 on the year.

Weisser drew a walk and stole second to set up an RBI opportunity for Scardinia in the fifth, who delivered with a single. Kipe and Weisser each added an RBI in the sixth for the final of 3-0.

The Red Devils threatened in the top of the seventh as senior Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) walked and pinch-hitter Ashley Whitson (Buchannan, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) singled before the Green Terror recorded the final out.

The Red Devils slip to 9-23 overall and 5-9 in the Centennial Conference. They are in action again tomorrow, returning home to host Elizabethtown College at 5:00 pm.
