(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a non-conference double-header with visiting Elizabethtown on Thursday night at Dickinson Park.
The Red Devils struck early and captured the opener 4-0 but dropped the nightcap, 3-1.
Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the first inning and came in to score on a single from Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville).
The Red Devils added another in the second as Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) reached on a two-base error and moved to third on a passed ball. She scored on a nice sacrifice bunt from Ashley Whitson (Buchanan, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Torlincasi singled in the third and scored as Kueny reached on another error. Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) singled and came in on an RBI hit from first-year Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) to put Dickinson up 4-0.
The Blue Jays threatened on the fifth but sophomore Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) worked her way out the jam and would earn the win in a three-hit effort, recording three strikeouts.
Torlincasi went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the opener while Rachel Brenowitz (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) reached all three times, getting hit once, drawing a walk and adding a single.
Sophomore Emily Rosenberg (Fredericksburg, Md./Massaponax) had a strong start in the circle in game two, retiring the first nine batters.
Clayton reached on an error and scored on an RBI single for Whitson to put the Devils on the board in the fourth inning of game two.
The Blue Jays capitalized on a pair of walks and a double from Nicole Heckert to score twice in the fifth and take a 2-1 lead. Emma Varrato doubled and scored an insurance run in the sixth for the final of 3-1.
Rosenberg suffered the loss, despite allowing just three hits in 5.1 innings before Kueny closed out the game.
Marissa Ruschil (Katonah, N.Y./St. Luke's, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a double in the nightcap while Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) went 1-for-2 with a walk.
The Red Devils slip to 10-23 overall. They close out the regular season with a home double-header on Saturday, hosting Ursinus College at 1:00 pm.
