(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team turned in a great performance on Tuesday, posting a 9-0 win over visiting Goucher College. The first-year class played a key role in the home opener, earning five singles wins and three points in doubles.
The Red Devils had a strong start with three wins in doubles, putting up scores of 8-2, 8-2 and 8-1. They continued to play well in singles as first-year Hanna Butler (Gibson Island, Md./Severn School) moved into the top flight and won her match, 6-3, 6-3.
Classmate Alexandra Epstein (Falmouth, Maine/Waynflete) claimed the second flight (6-2, 6-1) and teamed with senior Lauren Altschuler (Malvern, Pa./Eastern) for an 8-3 decision in the top doubles match-up.
Sophomore Olivia Shea (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) was the veteran in the singles line-up, capturing the third flight (6-1, 6-2) and joining Butler for an 8-2 win a number two doubles.
Newcomer Neve Brennan (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) won the fourth flight (6-2, 6-2) and Julia Poster (Irvington, N.Y./The Masters School) allowed just two points in singles and joined Elisa Varlotta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) for an 8-1 win in doubles. Kirsten Brodeen (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) moved into the sixth singles flight and rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Red Devils return to competition in February, traveling to the University of Mary Washington for the Eagle Indoor Invitational.
