Lane Gets Offensive as Devils Split With Mules

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with Muhlenberg College on a bitter cold Tuesday night, under the lights at Dickinson Park.

The Mules put a run on the board in the fourth inning of game one as Allyson Sweeney scored on a triple from Kristian Qualben.

The Red Devils answered with one in the bottom of the fifth as senior Alicia Lane (Sterling, Mass./Nashoba Regional) doubled and moved to third on a fly out. She would score as classmate Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) beat out a close play at first to tie the game.

The Red Devils erupted with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the opener, 9-1.

Lane carried the weight in the sixth, clearing the bases with a three-run double. First-year Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) drove in the final two runs with a double as well.

Epstein went 3-for-3 in the opener, adding a run and an RBI. Lane went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) went 2-for-3 at the plate while Marissa Fabbo (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson) went 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI.

Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) recorded seven strikeouts in the win.

The Red Devils kept the momentum going, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning of game two. Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) beat out a throw for single and scored off a triple from Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush). Parise came in on a long sac fly from McConney to lead 2-0.

Muhlenberg answered with a run in the top of the second and scored four in the third to take a 5-2 advantage.

Epstein singled and scored on a base hit from Siecinski to cut the deficit to 5-3 in the third. The teams traded runs in the sixth for the final of 6-4. Dickinson loaded the bases but was held to just one run.

Siecinski led the way in game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Lane drew a pair of walks after her offense in game one.

The Red Devils move to 14-14 overall and 3-7 in the conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting McDaniel College at 1:00 pm.
