(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped back-to-back heartbreakers on Saturday, falling 2-1 and 3-2 at Ursinus College.
The Red Devils scored right out of the gate as first-year Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) in the top of the first inning.
The Bears used sacrifice bunts and errors to overtake the Red Devils to two runs in the sixth inning and held on 2-1.
Junior Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) held the Bears scoreless until the sixth, recording seven strikeouts in the opener.
Gutpelet went 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored and a double. Classmate Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) went 2-for-3 as well.
Kayla Quinn hit a two-run homer in the second inning of game two to give the Bears an early lead in the nightcap. Epstein added another RBI to score Alicia Lane (Sterling, Mass./Nashoba Regional) in the third and Lane added an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game, 2-2.
The pairs used a pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt to push across the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the fourth and held on for the win.
Siecinski went 2-for-2 in game two while Lane finished 2-for-3. Milaszewski suffered the loss, despite allowing just four hits.
The Red Devils finish 17-17 overall and 6-10 in the Centennial Conference.
