Red Devils Suffer Heartbreakers on Thursday

(Tucson, Ariz.) – The Dickinson softball team suffered a pair of heartbreaking outings in Thursday as Bethany Lutheran scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 win and the Tigers of Trinity rallied from a 3-0 deficit to slip away 4-3.

In the opener junior Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) went head-to-head in a pitcher's duel with Bethany Lutheran's Bria Majeksi.

The Vikings would slip away with a 1-0 win, scoring in the bottom of the seventh, despite a brilliant effort in the circle. Milaszewski allowed a walk in the second inning but was perfect until the seventh inning. The Vikings manufactured the game-winner with a walk, sacrifice and a single.

Milaszewski recorded 10 strikeouts in the one-hit effort, slipping to 6-2 on the season. Majeski tallied nine strikeouts in a three-hitter.

The Red Devils struck early in game two, capitalizing on some fielding miscues by Trinity. Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) led things off with a double and moved to third on a single from classmate Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens). Acocella came in to score on an error and Siecinski would cross the plate on a wild pitch.

Dickinson tacked on another in the third as Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) drew a walk, moved to third in a sacrifice from Siecinski and came in to score on a single from Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford).

The Tigers used the long ball to rally and tie the game with a three-run fourth inning. Marissa Trevino hit a two-run homer and Katherine Weber doubled to score Brianna Pena.

Pena hit a homerun in the bottom of the sixth to give Trinity its first lead of the night at 4-3. The Red Devils were unable to plate the equalizer in the top of the suffering back-to-back heartbreakers on Thursday.

Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) suffered the loss, despite a solid effort in the circle, holding the Tigers to just four hits and two earned runs while recording four strikeouts. Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) came on to get the final out of the sixth.

The Red Devils move to 3-3 on the season. They close out the week with games against Millikan University and Buena Vista on Friday.
