Acocella Triple Rallies Red Devils Past Blue Jays

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball rallied in game two of its home opener, overtaking Elizabethtown College 5-4 on a three-run triple by Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) on Monday night. The Red Devils forced split after the Blue Jays claimed the opener 7-4.

The Blue Jays scored three runs in the first and second innings to take an early 6-2 lead in game one. The Red Devils tallied lone runs in four of the first five innings to cut the deficit to 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

The Blue Jays added an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the final.

Acocella singled to put the Red Devils on the board in the first inning. Dickinson capitalized on a pair of errors in the second as Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) scored Becca Kearns (Billerica, Mass./Innovation Academy) on a sacrifice fly.

First-year Paige Hahn (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) singled and moved into scoring position on an error in the third. She came around to score on a Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) single to left field.

Siecinski singled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt to set up an RBI opportunity for Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) to cut the lead to 6-4.

Siecinski led the way at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) came on to throw 5.2 innings, recording nine strikeouts.

The Blue Jays struck early again, scoring once in the first inning. The Red Devils pulled even on the bottom of the second as Hahn doubled and came around to score off the bat of Hannah Brenner (Stafford, Va./Mountain View).

Christiana Dark drove in two runs in the top of the third to put Elizabethtown back on top, 3-1, and Lindsey Fasolo tripled in the fifth to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Brenner started the rally with a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh. The Red Devils would load the bases and Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) reached on a perfectly dropped bunt to score Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter).

Siecinski flew out for the second out of the inning before Acocella launched the game-winning triple into centerfield.

Brenner tallied two hits in the nightcap while Lindsey Keller (Leonardville, Md./St. Marys' Ryken) went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk and Lema added an RBI and a run scored.

Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) went 4.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts before Milaszewski came in to earn the win, recording four strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.

The Red Devils move to 4-6 on the season. They are right back in action tomorrow hosting Hood College at 3:00 pm.
