Red Devils Win Nightcap in Split at Gettysburg

(GETTYSBURG, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split a Centennial Conference double-header at Gettysburg on Tuesday, rebounding from a 5-1 setback to win the nightcap 9-6.

The Bullets pulled in front 2-0 in game one on a two-run homer from Emily Colline in the third inning.

The Red Devils answered with one in the top of the fifth after Devon Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) reached on an error and went to third on another as Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./William Penn Charter) reached on a fielder's choice.

The Bullets capitalized on a pair of walks and a two-run single from Shelby Baker to stretch the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. They tacked on another lone run in the sixth for the final of 5-1.

Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) went 3-for-4, driving in Kueny for the Devils' lone run. Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./J.P./Stevens) went 2-for-2 with a walk while Lindsey Kucker (Ewing, N.J./Lawrenceville School) had the other hit for Dickinson.

Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) suffered the loss but recorded five strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

The Red Devils jumped out to an early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Siecinski hit a two-out double, driving in three runs to put Dickinson on the board.

Gettysburg countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brooke Espenshade (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) reached on a single in the second and scored off a single from Gutpelet and a double from Seburn to stretch the lead to 4-2.

Dickinson extended the lead to 5-2 in the third with Siecinski reaching on a walk and scoring on a bunt single from Espenshade.

Gettysburg cut the deficit to just a run, scoring twice in the bottom of the third.

Seburn launched a two-run run homer after Kueny singled in the fifth and back-to-back doubles from Marissa Fabbo (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson) and Espenshade put Dickinson up, 9-4 in the top of the sixth.

The Bullets managed two more in the seventh, but the Red Devils would hold on for the split.

Seburn finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Siecinski added three RBI and a run scored, Kristin Acocella (Redding, Pa./Joel Barlow) had two hits, two runs scored and double, and Gutpelet recorded a pair of hits as well.

Espenshade went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

The Red Devils move to 2-6 on the season. They are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Franklin & Marshall for a 1:00 pm double-header.
