Timely Hitting Leads Red Devils to Sweep of Ursinus

(CARLISLE, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team used some timely hits and strong defense to sweep visiting Ursinus on Thursday night. The Red Devils captured the opener, 8-2, and scored in the bottom of the seventh to secure game two, 2-1.

The Red Devils jumped on the board in the first inning of game one. Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) drew a lead-off walk and quickly came around on a double from Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford).

Ursinus capitalized on a double and sacrifice fly to score a pair of runs in the third to pull in front, 2-1.

Dickinson answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning as Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stephens) singled, stole second and came in on a double from Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow).

The Red Devils had a big inning in the fourth, plating four runs to take a 6-2 lead. Marissa Fabbo (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson) doubled and scored on an error that sent Brooke Espenshade (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) all the way to third.

Seburn hit a sacrifice fly and Acocella doubled again, driving in two more runs in the inning.

The Devils tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth, leading off the inning with back-to-back singles to set up a two RBI double from Hannah Brenner (Stafford, Va./Mountain View).

Acocella went 2-for-3 with three RBI while Seburn scored twice, going 2-for-3 as well. Siecinksi added two hits and scored twice in the opener as well. Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) earned the win, allowing just three hits in a complete game win.

The Red Devils battled through game two, coming out on top, 2-1. They took another early lead, scoring in the second inning. Siecinski reached on an error and advanced to second. Acocella laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Siecinski, setting up an RBI from Paige Hahn (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth).

The Bears countered with two singles and a fielder's choice to tie the game in the top of the fifth.

Devon Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) led-off the sixth with a single and stole second to set up an RBI single from Siecinski to put Dickinson back on top, 2-1.

Lindsay Kucker (Ewing, N.J./Lawrenceville School) finished strong in the seventh, facing just three batters to earn the complete game win. She matched Vill's game one performance, allowing just three hits in the game.

The Red Devils were held to just four hits in the nightcap with Kueny going 2-for-2 with a run scored while Siecinksi added a hit, RBI and run scored.

The Red Devils improve to 4-6 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting a double-header with Washington College at 12:00 pm.
