Devils Ready for NCAA Play This Weekend at Dickinson Park

CARLISLE, Pa. - After knocking off both the St. Mary's College of Maryland and the University of Lynchburg last weekend in the Round of 64 and 32 of the Division III NCAA Tournament. The Dickinson men's soccer team has been granted the honor and privilege of hosting the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds this weekend at Miller Memorial Field. The Red and White will take on the Bengals of Buffalo State University at 1:30pm on Saturday, which will follow the Williams College Ephs and Washington & Lee University Generals that kicks off at 11am.

Tickets will have to be purchased at the gate on the day of the game or by clicking here. Sales will be cash or card and are $10 for adults, faculty, staff, and Non-Dickinson Students, $5 for children (12 & under). 
Dickinson College students are free of charge by presenting their DICKINSON ID at the gate!

Inside the Devils Den (16-3-3, 4-2-3 Centennial)
Schedule Overview

  • Dickinson opened the season on a nine-match unbeaten run which included a 2-1 road win over third-ranked Messiah University.
  • The Devils first loss came on September 28th with a 4-2 conference setback to Muhlenberg College.
  • Off that loss, Dickinson collected victories over Gettysburg, Haverford, McDaniel, DeSales and Ursinus to help earn a spot in the CC Tournament.
  • The postseason for the Red and White so far has seen them best Washington (Md.) in the CC First Rd by a score of 6-1, St. Mary's (Md.) in NCAA First Rd (1-0) and Lynchburg a day later in the NCAA Second Rd (2-0). The only blemish came in the CC Semifinals on the road at Johns Hopkins (0-3).

Home Sweet Home

  • Dickinson has been really good at home so far this campaign as they posted a 7-1-1 mark at Miller Memorial Field.

All-Conference Honors

  • The Red and White had six athletes named to the All-Conference Team, in addition to having Head Coach Jorge Chapoy and his staff be named the CC Staff of the Year.
  • Saul Iwowo, Ethan Jarden and Timi Omoniwa were tabbed for the First Team. Iwowo was also selected as the CC Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Nicholas Dwamena earned a spot on the Second Team after being named the CC Rookie of the Year.
  • Mack Moore garnered Honorable Mention, while Tyson Burling was chosen to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Dynamic Duo

  • The All-Conference pair of Iwowo and Jarden have been hard to stop this season combining for 71 points on 28 goals (10 match-winners) and 15 helpers on 130 shots (58 on target). 
  • Iwowo paced the side in goals with 15 edging out Jarden's 13, while Jarden's eight helpers tops Iwowo's seven.
Rest of the Offensive Leaders Holding Down the Backline Keeper of the Cage
  • Aidan George has been outstanding for the Red and White in his first season as the full-time starter posting a 15-3-3 record with a .703 save percentage (52 saves) and a 1.12 goals-against average.
  • First-Year Gavin Marr has made five appearances as well making nine stops en route to a 1-0-0 record. 

The Bengals Den (16-2-4, 7-1-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference)
Schedule Overview

  • Buffalo State just like the Red and White began their campaign on an absolute tear going unbeaten over their first 14 matches (13-0-1) with the only tie being a 1-1 draw with Grove City College.
  • Following their first setback on October 19th a 2-0 conference road loss to SUNY New Paltz, the Bengals ended the regular season with a win over Oswego State and draws to SUNY Cortland and Hobart.
  • They began their run in the SUNYAC Tournament with a victory over SUNY New Paltz 2-1 in the semifinals, before falling to Cortland by a margin of 3-1 during the final.
  • Last weekend, they took care of Thomas (3-0) in the First Round, prior to playing the host Tufts to a 1-1 stalemate but advancing 4-3 on penalty kicks.

The Ephs Pack (12-4-3, 5-3-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference)
Schedule Overview

  • Williams opened the season with non-conference win over Wheaton (3-1), but then suffered back-to-back conference losses to Tufts (1-0) and Hamilton (2-0).
  • However, they then went unbeaten over their next 11 (9-0-2), including wins over then top-ranked Amherst (1-0) No. 14 Cortland (1-0) and No. 15 Bowdoin (1-0).
  • A 2-1 double-overtime victory over Wesleyan in the First Round of the NESCAC Tournament gave way to a 2-1 loss in the semifinals to Connecticut College.
  • The Ephs hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament last weekend in Massachusetts posting wins against Manhattanville (3-1) and Messiah (1-0 2OT).

The Generals Orders (14-3-5, 6-0-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference)
Schedule Overview

  • Things started out shakey for Washington & Lee University as they dropped three of their first four to Johns Hopkins (2-0), Catholic (2-1) and Covenant (3-0).
  • They then righted the ship to win seven of their next eight, including a six-goal outburst in a conference win against Guilford on September 28th (6-0).
  • Three consecutive ties with Shenandoah, Lynchburg and Roanoke gave way to two wins to end the regular season.
  • The Generals secured their spot in the NCAA Tournament by winning the ODAC Tournament by knocking off Randolph-Macon (1-0), Virginia Wesleyan (3-2) and Lynchburg (1-0) in the span of a week.
  • Last weekend in Baltimore they took down Otterbein (1-0) and the host Johns Hopkins (1-1 draw, 4-2 in PKs).
