Devils Drop Two More in Arizona to Seahawks and Warriors

TUSCON, Ariz. - The Dickinson softball team found another rough go of it on Monday afternoon as the Red and White dropped two more games to Eastern Connecticut State University (15-1) and Salve Regina University (3-1) at Lincoln Park.

Game One: Seahawks 4, DEVILS 1
Time of Game: 1:45
Pitching Decision: W - Emily Cronin (1-0) | L - Abby Kohan (0-2)

Inside the Game
Dickinson began the game struggling to find offense against Emily Cronin as an Emma Glosson single was the only knock for the Red and White over the first two frames, while striking out five times. In the last of the second the Seahawks got on the board versus Abby Kohan when doubles for Cronin and Katie Ramos made it 1-0. After each side went one-two-three during the third, the game flipped to the fourth. Following a flyout by Jane Lloyd to start things off, singles for Eden Blanker and Glosson had runners on the corners for Kohan. She would knot the game with a sacrifice fly to right scoring Blanker. However, the Devils could do no more damage as Laila Gwathmey popped up to short for the last out.

The pitching on both sides continued to be strong over the next couple of innings as the game remained locked at 1-1 entering the seventh. In the top of the frame, Dickinson was unable to get anything going with Cronin fanning both Lauren Routzahn and Kohan, while Gwathmey popped up to third. However, in the home-half, a DC miscue let the leadoff hitter Cronin reach, before two batters later pinch-hitter Christina Braid blasted a two-run walkoff homer for the 3-1 win.

Devils Circle Report
Kohan suffered a hard-luck loss after scattering five knocks over six-and-a-third innings allowing three runs (two earned) and whiffing four.

Game Two: Warriors 15, DEVILS 1 (F/5)
Time of Game: 1:55
Pitching Decision: W - Alexa Boone (1-1) | L - Beth Belanger (0-2)

Inside the Game
Dickinson starter Beth Belanger hit some trouble early as ECSU collected two hits, two hit batters and a pair of walks to go along with one DC error to open up a 4-0 lead just seven hitters into the game. Then, still with no one out and the bags full Erin McMahon took to the circle and allowed a two-run single to Maggie Rubeck and a sacrifice fly by Maggie Baker to make it 7-0 through just a half inning. The Devils would pull one back in the home-half with singles by Jane Lloyd and Jessie Sandusky setting the stage for an RBI knock from Eden Blanker to cut it down to 7-1 with one in the books. Following a quiet second for both sides the Warriors went back to work in the third scoring three more times courtesy of four consecutive singles for Emma Marelli, Sarah Remillard, Alyssa Vilchez and Julia SanGiovanni making it 10-1. Following three singles against McMahon to start the fourth, Kaylie Renner attempted to stem the tide, but RBIs once again from Marelli, Remillard, Vilchez and SanGiovanni pushed the margin to 15-1 after four. With Dickinson facing "last call" in the fifth Lauren Routzahn drew a leadoff walk, before strikeouts by Hope Josti and Renner along with a groundout from Lloyd ended the game.

Devils Circle Report
Belanger surrendered seven runs (six earned) on just two hits, while walking two and hitting two over seven batters. McMahon went three frames fanning five with nine hits and six runs against. Renner capped the game with the final two innings allowing two runs on three hits.

The On-Deck Circle
Dickinson (0-4) continues their time in Arizona later today with games against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Whittier at 2 and 4:30pm respectively.
