Homers Do In Devils Against Bulldogs

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Dickinson baseball team allowed two home runs and were limited to just three hits on Monday afternoon as the University of Redlands posted a 3-0 non-conference win over the Red and White at The Yard. With the loss the Devils slip to 1-1 on their Spring Break trip through the Golden State.

Quick Notes
Final Score - Bulldogs 3, DEVILS 0
Records - Dickinson (3-5) | Redlands (13-7)
Pitching Decision - W - Kyler Bacosa (1-1) | L - Austin Buzza (1-1) | S - Brett Edwards (3)

  • Each side recorded a single, but neither was able to make it beyond first base.
  • Dickinson got a walk to Ryan Thompson and a single by Chase Weller to put two on with no one out. However, a fielder's choice from Luke Gartland and a double-play hit into by Christian Kim ended the inning.
  • The bottom-half of the frame saw the home side take a 2-0 lead as Nate Miller collected a single, before Will Cell knocked the Austin Buzza offering over the left-field wall. Buzza then settled down by getting a flyout and popout to retire the side.
  • Pitching was the name of the game thru the third and fourth innings as Dickinson went "six-up, six-down", while Buzza allowed one runner in each frame but no damage done.
  • The bottom of the frame saw Redlands try to extend their lead with two singles and a stolen base putting runners on the corners with no one out. Buzza calmly set down the next three men to keep it at 2-0 heading to the sixth.
  • Walks to Josh Markley, Kaden Sigmon and Matt Torres loaded the bases with one out for Thompson. He would not get to face Bacosa as Miles Lu took over on the hill. Lu got Thompson to watch strike three, before getting Weller to flyout to end the threat.
  • The Bulldogs pushed the gap to 3-0 in the home-half with a two-out solo home run to left by Miller.
  • Dickinson tried to mount a rally during the top-half of the inning against Edwards as Gartland legged out an infield single to lead things off. Unfortunately, a flyout and double-play finished off the game.
