WHITTIER, Calif. - Dickinson baseball senior infielder
Matt Torres blasted an eighth-inning solo home run to help the Red and White get back on track with a 3-2 non-conference win over Whitter College in the Devils first game of their California trip on Sunday evening at Mendez Stadium.

- Dickinson got right on top as a leadoff walk to Dylan Posencheg came around to score two batters later when Ryan Thompson smacked an RBI double to right-center for the 1-0 lead through just a half.
- Koll Peichel got the ball for the Red and White and allowed a one-out double, before getting consecutive flyouts to retire the side.
- Pitching was the name of the game over the previous innings until Ethan Sodl opened the frame with an infield single, which than came around to score two men later when Kaden Sigmon drove him home with a base hit. A wild pitch and a walk to Thompson had two men on, but a strikeout and lineout ended the rally with the score at 2-0.
- Evan Connery took over on the mound for Peichel and surrendered a two-out double to Matthew Mecate, before Joe Plaskett lined out to Torres for the final out.
- With the Devils still up 2-0, Walker became the third arm of the day for the Devils. He ran into some issues as a pair of walks and a single loaded the pillows for Coehn Nakasone. During his at-bat a wild pitch plated one, followed by the second wild pitch of the frame scored another making it 2-2 into the eighth.
- Diego Lopez went to the mound at the start of the frame and got a groundout of Sigmon, followed by a flyout for Thompson. However, instead of being able to finish the frame, he was replaced by Cazares who immediately was greeted by a solo homer for Torres to take a slim 3-2 lead.Â
- Walker finished things out from there by going "six up, six down" on the hill to end the game.
