GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team used a six-run eighth inning to close within 9-7 on Wednesday afternoon against Messiah University. However, for the second time this season the Falcons just had too much in the tank as they responded with six of their own in the last of the eighth to help them secure a 15-9 non-conference win at Starry Baseball Field.
Quick Notes
Final Score - Falcons 15, DEVILS 9
Records - Dickinson (7-6) | Messiah (8-7)
Pitching Decision - W - Ryan Morrison (1-0) | L -
Ben Myers (1-2)
- Dickinson needed just two batters to take the lead against Messiah starter Sawyer Shepherd as Kaden Sigmon smashed a pitch over the right-field fence. Matt Torres would follow with a walk, but two flyouts ended the frame.
- Myers then took to the hill and did exactly what DC needed him to do as he put the Falcons down in order with two strikeouts and a lineout.
- After a quiet top of the frame, the Falcons would soar to a 2-1 lead during the home-half as Matt Luchovick picked up his first of four home runs of the day, before two straight doubles plated the second run of the inning.

Â
- A leadoff walk to Chase Weller and hit batsman of Kyle Bailey gave DC two base runners with no outs. Unfortunately, two flyouts and groundout to short stalled any kind of rally.
- Dylan Isanogle opened up the home-half with a double and then came around to score when the next hitter Luke Ott reached on a DC throwing error. That brought Luchovick back to the dish and he sent the pitch hugging the left-field line clearing the wall for a 5-1 lead.
- Messiah extended their edge to 6-1 during the bottom of the frame when Luchovick ledoff with his third jack of the game against new pitcher Dylan Robinson. Robinson then settled down nicely to retire the next three men he faced.Â
- Dickinson tried to start something with a two-out walk hit batter of Dylan Posencheg, unfortunately after he swiped second base a strikeout closed things out.
- With one down in the bottom-half a single and an error had runners at the corners for Isanogle. He would ground out back to Robinson driving in the player from third, before a two-bagger by Ott scored the second of the frame. Luchovick then continued the rally by reaching on the second miscue to make it 9-1 entering the eighth.
- After Matt Torres popout to open up the inning, Shawn Arneja walked, Bailey doubled and Luke Gartland worked a free pass to load the cushions for Kevin Schmidt. He would deposit the Chris Beatty Jr. deep into the right-field corner to drive in three. Two batters later Ryan O'Connor singled to score Schmidt with two out, before Posencheg blasted a pitch over the right-field wall to trim the gap to 9-7 going to the home-half.
- Zack Wernick took over on the hill to start and allowed a walk and double to plate one, followed immediately, by Evan Wagaman doubling into left to open the margin out to 11-7. Evan Connery became the Devils second arm in the inning and with two walks the bags were loaded for Luchovick. He ended his afternoon with a bang by ripping a grand slam beyond the left-center wall to bump the gap to 15-7.
- A John Kumpa walk, Bailey single and Gartland free pass loaded the bases for Schmidt with one down. He would be plunked by a pitch to force across one, followed by a Will Ferris sacrifice fly to score Bailey and set the 15-9 final result.
