Tough Fifth Frame Too Much for Devils to Overcome Against #13 Profs

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team welcomed in the 13th-ranked Profs from Rowan University on Monday afternoon to MacPhail Field. Unfortunately, for the Red and White a seven-run top of the fifth for the visitors broke open a 2-0 game into what ended up being a 12-0 non-conference win for the Profs.

Quick Notes
Final Score - #13 Profs 12, DEVILS 0 (F/7)
Records - Dickinson (8-8) | Rowan (12-2)
Pitching Decision - W - Austin Kreyenhagen (2-0) | L - Grayson Walker (1-1)

  • Tyler Cannon and Josh Markley each singled for their respective side, but both starting pitchers Kreyenhagen and Walker closed the door on any potential threat before it even got going.
  • Following a quiet second frame, the visitors would get on the board during the top of the inning using two singles to set the stage for Brayden Davis making it 1-0 with an RBI knock to left.
  • Dickinson tried to get something started with a one-out walk drawn by George Thorp. However, the Profs would then flash the leather with Dylan Posencheg lining out to short before Markley gave the ball a ride into the outfield which was tracked down by the right-fielder.

  • A leadoff walk to Joey Bogart started the visitors on their quest to a second run. He stole second and then advanced to third on a groundball putting a man 90-feet away with two down. Marco Mannino made it so Walker could not get out of it unscathed as he stroked a single to right-center pushing it 2-0 entering the home portion.
  • With one away Ryan Thompson smacked a single to center bringing the tying run to the dish. Unfortunately, Rowan once again showed some strong defense by getting Kyle Bailey to bounce into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.
  • A walk and a single accounted for the first run of the inning and had one on for Nick Struble. He would not face Walker again though as Evan Connery took over on the bump. However, seven straight men would then reach allowing six more to cross home and extend the margin to 9-0. Sam Bliss was then summoned from the pen and recorded a strikeout and lineout to prevent further damage.
  • Dickinson was not able to mount any kind of answer in the home-half as Kreyenhagen put the Devils down in order.
  • A single, walk and DC error had the bags loaded with Profs to start the top-half. After a strikeout of Chris Serrano, Marco Mannino delivered a sacrifice fly and Cannon reached on the second DC miscue allowing two more to come home to make it 11-0.
  • Once again Kreyenhagen had the answer on the mound retiring the Red and White "one-two-three" to not give Dickinson a hope of a comeback.
  • Rowan capped the scoring in the top-half of the frame with a pair of singles extending the gap to 12-0.
  • Kaden Sigmon cracked open the bottom portion by smacking a single to right-center, but the next three batters were set down to end the game.
  • Walker (L) - 4.1 ip, 7 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 2 walks, 6 strikeouts
