CARLISLE, Pa. - Coming off a huge shootout win over the ninth-ranked Messiah University on Friday, the Dickinson field hockey team was back on the home pitch Sunday afternoon entertaining the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan University. After struggling to find the offense against the Falcons, the Red and White got two markers from
Megan McClure and solo tallies by
Alexandra Hockwitt,
Ella McTeague,
Sophia Pereira and
Nicole Uebele en route to a convincing 6-0 non-conference win at the Biddle Field Complex.
First Quarter
- Dickinson had the first chance of the game at the 3:25 mark when Caroline Kirkpatrick found Pereira for a blast at cage, but DJ Holsclaw was their to beat it wide.
- The Marlins then pushed into the attack circle about 30 seconds later and earned a penalty stroke due to a DC foul in the area. Kyndra Peyton would step up to take it. However, Devils keeper Taylor Morrow knocked it away to keep it 0-0.
- Over the next eight minutes the Red and White took the play to the VWU defense earning five penalty corners and getting shots from Maggie Carson, Erin Liggio, Gillian Rosenstock, Kirkpatrick and Pereira which led to a pair of Holsclaw stops.
- Just before the end of the frame the Devils did finally find a breakthrough with Uebele finishing off a good phase of attack beyond the reach of Holsclaw (1-0).Â
Second Quarter
- The constant attack for DC carried over into the second Uebele recorded two shots within the opening three minutes resulting in another save for Holsclaw.
- After a span on five minutes passed by with no shots for either side, Pereira tested Holsclaw, before McClure buried her first of the day (2-0).
- VWU had two opportunities to chop a goal off the Devils lead prior to halftime, but neither of their two penalty corners resulted in a shot.
Third Quarter
- The first five minutes went by without a shot from either team as the game was played mostly in the midfield.
- It then became one way traffic towards Holsclaw's cage as Dickinson notched 15 straight shots thanks to Alex Hackett, Hockwitt, Kirkpatrick, Liggio, McClure, McTeague, Pereira and Uebele. During that offensive charge for the Red and White they forced Holsclaw into six saves, while McClure, McTeague and Pereira each found the back of the cage off a corner to take a commanding 5-0 edge into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- To open the final frame Kayla Capuzzi got her first collegiate action in cage as she took over for Morrow.
- She much like Morrow would watch her offense control the game as the duo of Hockwitt and Uebele tasked Holsclaw into making three more stops within a three minute stretch.
- Then, in the 49th minutes the Devils pushed it to 6-0 when Uebele inserted a corner to Hockwitt at the top of the circle. She would then carry the ball towards cage before unleashing a shot through a maze of players that slipped past Holsclaw.
- The Marlins called upon Capuzzi with 55:23 gone as she shutdown Carlisle native Ashlyn Boykin.
- Carson fired the last shot of the match with just under two minutes remaining, but she missed the target to set the final score.
