CARLISLE, Pa. - After being ranked in the newest NFHCA Coaches Poll on Tuesday, the 25th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team knew they were in for their biggest challenge of the season on Wednesday afternoon as they welcomed the tenth-ranked Shenandoah University to the Biddle Field Complex. Fortunately, for the Red and White they were able to past the test with flying colors as they used a 22-6 shot advantage to post a convincing 5-1 non-conference win.
First Quarter
- Dickinson had complete control of the frame as they earned three corners leading to six shots coming from Alexandra Hockwitt, Erin Liggio, Sophia Pereira, Natalie Slusser and Nicole Uebele. However, Cassidy Alexander was able to make three saves to keep it scoreless into the 12th minute.
- The Devils would finally have their persistence pay off with just 49 seconds left when Alex Hackett jammed home the first of her collegiate career to make it 1-0.
- Shenandoah got a last ditch effort as well, but Claudia Lenahan was turned away by DC goalie Taylor Morrow.
Second Quarter
- The Hornets began the period on the attack as an early corner played in by Madison Short resulted in chances for Ellie Quinn and Lenahan, but both rolled wide.
- In the 23rd-minute, Dickinson had the opportunity to add on when Liggio let one fly at Alexander who swatted it away.Â
- The duo of Megan McClure and Pereira added shots within the final, unfortunately Alexander shut them down again.
Third Quarter
- Dickinson blew the game open by scoring three times inside the opening five minutes thanks to the pair of McClure (2) and Pereira.Â
- First, off a corner inserted by Maggie Carson to Slusser for a shot McClure was camped out at the doorstep to knock the ball into the cage.
- Then, not even two minutes later it became 3-0 when Pereira deposited an unassisted strike past Alexander.Â
- The score advanced to 4-0 at the 35:55 mark when McClure buried her second of the frame.
- Two more corners led to a pair of Liggio chances, but none of them reached Alexander.
Fourth Quarter
- Dickinson was on the attack to start again as Gillian Rosenstock asked a question of Alexander who was up to the task.
- The Hornets then recorded the next two shots with Camryn DeLeva and Reagan Flory having their attempts snuffed out by the defense.
- Things became 5-0 in the 52nd when a corner by Carson connected with Slusser who hit an open Uebele for the finish.
- Just over a minute after that SU broke the shutout of Morrow as Mackenzie Watkins slipped one past to set the 5-1 final.
