CARLISLE, Pa. - Sophomore forward
Alex Hackett broke a scoreless deadlock two minutes into the fourth quarter to give the 20th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team a 1-0 non-conference win over the visiting Susquehanna University on Wednesday afternoon at the Biddle Field Complex.
First Quarter
- Just over two minutes in it would be the visitors who posted the first shot of the game as a corner played in by Hannah Garlin fell to Jada Thompson who trickled an attempt wide of goal.
- That would amount to be the only offering of the frame, as a corner inserted by Gillian Rosenstock did not result in a shot as the period came to an end.
Second Quarter
- With a minute off the clock Dickinson had their first look at cage when a pass from Rosenstock found Megan McClure who had her shot snuffed out by Kylie Schmidt.
- In the 25th-minute, the Devils were awarded a penalty stroke due to a foul in the circle. Rosenstock stepped up to the spot and was denied by the left foot of Schmidt.
- Ella Shimp tested home keeper Arden Cook inside the final minute, but she was turned away.
Third Quarter
- Following a conversation with head coach Maggie Sohns and her staff at the break, the home side came out firing away as Alexandra Hockwitt and Nicole Uebele were stopped by Schmidt.
- Dickinson continued to keep the River Hawks pinned in their own half with two penalty corners resulting in shots from Raegan Carty, Hockwitt, McClure and Rosenstock unfortunately none of them solved Schmidt.
- The quarter came to a close with DC posting the only seven shots.
Fourth Quarter
- The attack continued for the Devils with Carty and Hockwitt stopped by Schmidt within the first minute.
- However, the hosts would finally find their breakthrough in the 47th-minute when Lucy Brown was able to force a pass through the defense to Hackett who knocked it over the line for the 1-0 edge.
- Schmidt was busy again a few minutes later shutting the door on both Rosenstock and Uebele after a pair of corners.
- Dickinson limited the guests to one shot over the remaining five minutes, while tallying five attempts at the other end. However, neither side would be able to strike as the final horn sounded with a 1-0 Devil win.
