(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting
Susquehanna University on Tuesday night. The Crusaders won the
opener, 4-2, and held off a late rally in the nightcap for a 5-4
victory. |
Junior Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel,
N.J./Holmdel) hit two homeruns on the night. She
already holds the school record, and is now tied for second
all-time in the Centennial Conference in career homeruns with
18.
Her first was a two-run shot to dead center,
scoring Erin King (Bowie, Md./Bowie), who
reached on a single.
Kelli Holota hit a solo shot in the second inning to cut the
deficit to 2-1. Susquehanna pushed across two runs in the fourth to
take a 3-2 lead. Holota doubled in Brennan Balfour to put the
Crusaders on top 4-2.
Murtaugh and King both went 2-for-3 in the
game. Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius
X) pitched well in the loss, striking out five in 3.1
innings.
Murtaugh launched another bomb in the bottom of the first inning
to put the Devils in front early in game two. Back-to-back homeruns
from Balfour and Holota gave Susquehanna a 3-2 lead in the top of
the fifth.
The Red Devils rallied in the bottom of the seventh, triggered
by a one-out double from first-year Rachel Jordan
(Medford, N.J./Shawnee).
Murtraugh drew her third straight walk of the game
and Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy) doubled to left-center, scoring Jordan and
Murtaugh to make the score 5-3.
Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark
Academy) singled to bring Sisco around to score, but
great throw from Holota ended the game with the Devils just shy,
5-4.
Allison Jordan (Medford,
N.J./Shawnee) came on to strikeout six in four
innings.
Sisco went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Rachel Jordan added a
pair of hits, including the double. Murtaugh helped her average
with a homerun, going 1-for-1 on the day with four walks.

on Wednesday for a 3:00 double-header.
