(Westminster, Md.) - The Dickinson College women's tennis team swept McDaniel 9-0 in Centennial Conference play on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Devils rolled to a 3-0 lead after doubles, winning 8-1, 8-1, 8-0. The Devils continued strong play into singles, winning in straight sets. Senior Joelle Nitzberg (W. Windsor, N.J./W. Windsor Plainsboro S.) moved into the top singles flight, posting a 6-3, 6-1 decision. She teamed with doubles partner Carla Cox (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) to capture the top flight.
First-year Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) won easily in the second singles flight (6-0. 6-1). She teamed with classmate Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) for an 8-0 win in doubles.
Sarah Woodward (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) and Leigh Oczkowski (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) did not surrender a point in singles. They combined for an 8-1 win in doubles. Oczkowski won an 8-0 pro-set while Woodward won the third flight of singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Nora Hajnoczky (Wallingford, Conn./Strath Haven) won her singles match 8-4 while Altholtz claimed a 6-0, 6-0 decision in singles as well.
The Red Devils improve to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Bryn Mawr College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm match.
