(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team, ranked 18th in the latest ITA Atlantic South Regional poll, went head-to-head with visiting Franklin & Marshall before the Diplomats escaped with a 5-4, Centennial Conference decision here on Thursday afternoon.
The Diplomats jumped out to a 2-1 lead, claiming first and third doubles. Juniors Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julien's School) and Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) earned the point for the Red Devils, taking the second flight, 8-3.
Nunes and Parks added two more points with wins in the third and fourth singles flights, claiming straight set decisions. Nunes won her match (6-2, 6-2) while Parks posted a (6-1, 6-2) victory.
After F&M pulled in front, 4-3, senior Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) battled to a win in the second flight to even the match. Allysan Breece held on the sixth (2-6, 6-4, 6-1) as the Diplomats captured the final point.
The Diplomats improved to 8-10 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The Red Devils slip to 8-4 and 5-3 in the CC. Dickinson travels to Swarthmore College on Saturday to face the Garnet at 1:00 pm.
